Patient Success Story – Tracy Jackson
Forty-three-year-old Tracy Jackson from Wellington, Colorado, lives with her mother, three dogs, and two cats. She enjoys spending time outdoors, painting, woodworking, and adult coloring.
Because Tracy has multiple sclerosis and mild cerebral palsy, she walks with the assistance of a walker and uses a scooter for longer distances. She manages a Facebook group with her friends called Disability Fun Club, where they play games, watch movies, and listen to music on Zoom.
Recently, Tracy was involved in a head-on car collision that left her with fractured ribs and exacerbated her multiple sclerosis, intensifying her symptoms.
After initial treatment at an acute care hospital, Tracy chose to receive specialized rehabilitative care at Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Hospital (NCRH) because of the excellent treatment she received there during previous visits. “The therapy is always great and makes me stronger to be able to return home,” she says.
Upon arrival at NCRH, Tracy was unable to move on her own and required use of a lift. She received physical and occupational therapies to work on strength and conditioning. During physical therapy treatments, she focused on transfers and walking with a walker. With occupational therapy, she worked on activities of daily living, such as dressing, toileting, and grooming.
“Everyone always makes the experience fun,” Tracy says. “Dr. Revelyn Arrogante is wonderful and has been with me each time I have been here. She helps me feel comfortable.”
After almost three weeks of specialized therapy, Tracy now can walk 250 feet with a walker and uses her wheelchair for longer distances. She’s excited to return home to her mom and pets. She plans to continue working on getting stronger, with the goal of eventually not requiring any adaptive equipment.
