Laredo Rehabilitation Hospital Expands Care

Laredo Rehabilitation Hospital recently completed a major expansion that more than doubles its capacity from 21 to 55 private patient rooms. The medical rehabilitation hospital’s growth reflects its ongoing commitment to providing specialized rehabilitative care to individuals recovering from disabilities caused by injuries, illnesses, or chronic medical conditions.

“Expanding our bed capacity in Laredo reflects Ernest Health’s continued commitment to meeting the growing rehabilitation needs of this community. As demand for high-quality inpatient rehabilitation services increases, this expansion ensures more patients have access to the specialized care and outcomes they deserve close to home,” says Jake Socha, President and CEO of Ernest Health.

Previously, Laredo Rehabilitation Hospital operated with 21 beds, limiting its ability to accommodate the increasing number of patient referrals. With the expansion, the hospital is projected to care for more than 600 patients annually.

“We added beds to meet the community’s growing need for specialized rehabilitative care,” says Joseph Troudt, Chief Executive Officer of Laredo Rehabilitation Hospital. “We have undertaken essential modifications and upgrades to the former Laredo Specialty Hospital to ensure we meet the highest standards of care and comfort for our patients.”

“This is a significant step forward in meeting the demand for high-quality rehabilitative services in Laredo and surrounding areas,” Troudt says. “As our bed capacity grows, so does our team. We anticipate adding about 20 new positions, further strengthening our ability to deliver exceptional, personalized care to every patient who comes through our doors.”

In addition to the expansion, the hospital also now provides innovative gait-training technology for patients with neurological and mobility impairments. The Rise&Walk®, developed by Nashville-based Healing Innovations, Inc., is a full-spectrum gait trainer that synchronizes upper and lower extremity movements. This versatile neurorehabilitation station integrates robotic-assisted gait training, seated activities, and a balance support system to enhance mobility recovery. The system enables patients to achieve their rehabilitation goals more quickly and effectively.

Services provided at Laredo Rehabilitation Hospital are led by a physician and delivered by an interdisciplinary healthcare team. They include:

  • Around-the-clock rehabilitative nursing care
  • Physical, occupational, and speech therapies provided a minimum of 15 hours per week
  • Respiratory therapy
  • Dietary services
  • Case management
  • Pharmacy services and more

Laredo Rehabilitation Hospital features a 4,900-square-foot therapy gym equipped with the latest rehabilitative technology, as well as an activities of daily living suite. The hospital is ranked in the Top 10% of inpatient rehabilitation facilities nationwide and holds Joint Commission certifications in Stroke and Parkinson’s Rehabilitation. The hospital also provides outpatient rehabilitation services.

“We are truly excited about this expansion, as it enables us to better serve the people of Laredo and surrounding areas,” Troudt says. “Our mission has always been to help our patients maximize their recoveries and regain independence. With these additional beds and resources, we can ensure that more families have access to high-quality rehabilitative care right here in our own community.”
