National Recognition
All Ernest Health hospitals are accredited by The Joint Commission, with many choosing to be voluntary reviewed for disease-specific certifications. Our patient care efforts at Ernest Health hospitals have earned us national recognition as a healthcare leader, meaning that we provide the highest level of available care to our patients in their own communities.
Rehabilitation Hospitals Ranked in Nation’s Top 10%
Ernest Health’s rehabilitation hospitals have been ranked in the top 10% nationally by the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSMR), a non-for-profit corporation that was developed with support from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation research, a component of the U.S. Department of Education.
The UDSMR ranks rehabilitation facilities based upon care that is:
- Patient-Centered
- Effective
- Efficient
- Timely
This means that through services at Ernest Health rehabilitation hospitals, patients right in their own communities can receive the highest level of rehabilitative care available nationally without having to leave their areas.
UDSMR, which administers the world’s largest medical rehabilitation database, provides common language and measurement tools to monitor patient results.
Through UDSMR, our rehabilitation hospitals collaborate with our peers throughout the United States to share information and establish best practices for patients. This helps us elevate rehabilitative care for everyone across the United States.
National Respiratory Care Recognition
Ernest Health’s long-term acute care hospitals have earned the national Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) from the American Association for Respiratory Care. This designation is given to facilities that meet strict safety and quality standards related to providing respiratory care. Our hospitals are among 700 nationwide – or 15 percent – to receive this recognition.
The QRCR program was started in 2003 by the American Association for Respiratory Care. This designation is aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals.
To qualify for the recognition, our hospitals had to meet certain requirements, including:
- Respiratory care therapists are available 24 hours a day, with all legally recognized or credentialed to provide respiratory care services
- Respiratory care therapists provide patient assessments and make clinical recommendations regarding service needs and plans of care
- A competency-based training program in place for all personnel administering respiratory care
- A physician is designated as medical director of respiratory care services, who consistently reviews plans of care for respiratory patients
At Ernest Health’s long-term acute care hospitals, respiratory therapists work closely with physicians and staff to provide a wide range of respiratory services to patients. Ventilator weaning, tracheostomy care, and pulmonary disease management are a few basic services they provide. They are also key members of the Ventilator Wean Team; a multi-disciplinary approach to wean patients off ventilators. The team has experience with weaning patients with some of the most complex medical issues.
Advanced Stroke Certification
Ernest Health’s rehabilitation hospitals have received the Joint Commission’s disease-specific certification for stroke rehabilitation, which signifies the hospital’s dedication to developing better results for stroke patients. The award is given after a rigorous on-site review by an expert evaluator.
The award recognizes how committed we are and how well we provide rehabilitation following a stroke. Through our services, we want to provide hope and quality of life to our community members who have experienced this debilitating event.
Certification through the Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Program is voluntary and available only to stroke programs in Joint Commission-accredited acute care hospitals.
Certification requirements address three main areas:
- Compliance with consensus-based national standards
- Effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care
- Organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities
